Glorify the Lord with Cheerful Giving All Year
Christmas is right around the corner. It is a time of great celebration for many people, which includes commemorating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Lots of gifts will be exchanged, big feasts will be prepared, and many other festivities will take place. What about the rest of the year leading up to Christmas? How often do we exhibit a spirit of cheerful giving? Do we give to others at all, especially those in need? Do we give to receive? Are we stingy?
Jesus taught in Luke 6:38 that if we give, it will be returned unto us in the same manner. In other words, if we are stingy, others will be stingy with us. If we are generous, others will be generous toward us. If we give what we are able to help others, the Lord will make sure that we always have what we need and even in abundance so that we can continue giving.
While we are buying gifts and doing things for others this Holiday season, it is very important to have the right attitude while we are doing it. The Lord loves a cheerful giver. In II Corinthians 9:7, the Apostle Paul tells the Corinthian church about the attitude of giving. He goes on to say that God will provide generously when others give for the right reasons and have a good attitude. He will give us more than we need so that we are continuously able to share with other people.
Let us not forget the greatest gift of all this holiday season. It is a time to commemorate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. John 3:16 talks about how much God loved us by sending Jesus to die for our sins so that we would not perish but have eternal life if we believe in him. The gift of salvation through Jesus is the greatest gift that we could ever receive.
This Christmas, and all year, glorify the Lord in giving. Choose to be a cheerful giver while choosing Jesus today and every day.
